That music was being played this night, but we could not hear it in our little room. It is intimate, quiet and away from the rear bar, which normally has live music. We had dined there before, and also for a business meeting/dinner. We were greeted at the reception desk, just off of the hotel’s lobby, and shown to our table, which was in a little, semi-private room, off of the main hallway. When one is on the road so much, it’s always nice to encounter a friendly, familiar face. I have lost count of the times we have dined at the Gaslight Club, but we have come to recognize many of the servers, a few of whom have worked there for several years. With our business travel schedule, we find ourselves dining at many airport hotel restaurants, and I have to say that the Gaslight Club is unique - nothing else like it, and in a world of sameness, its character is appreciated. The Gaslight Club is an anachronism, a throwback to an earlier era, but that is part of its charm - slightly campy, a little bit kitschy and by the way, the food and service is good. ![]() It was such a situation, which brough us there in February - a dinner meeting, and stay before heading downtown for more meetings. In some cases, we are just connecting to early flights out of ORD, in some cases we are staying at the airport, after a longer meeting downtown, and in a few cases, my wife has dinner meetings at the Gaslight Club. ![]() I cannot imagine that we will not dine there again, when staying at the Hilton O’Hare Airport Hotel.Īs my wife’s corporate offices have moved to Chicago, and as my wife is on several boards that meet in/around the city, we dine at the Gaslight Club in the Hilton ORD Airport Hotel rather often. In all, a very nice evening, in a restaurant so very convenient to our room, and also to ORD Airport. As mentioned, lighting is a bit dim, though it is brighter in that board room location. I also believe that the pianist has been there, for as long as we have been coming, and maybe even the female singer, who is featured on about half of the songs. In our adjoining room, we could hear the music, but it was in no way obtrusive. Behind those areas, is a bar, with more table seating, plus a piano, with live music. On this visit, we were in one of the booths. On several occasions, my wife has held meetings there, and it has worked well. The restaurant is sort of fragmented, in that there is a dining area, just off of the hostess stand, which has regular tables, booths, and then a “board room” area. Most of the staff were familiar to us, and some had been at this restaurant for over a decade. This change, we were told, was about six months ago, so just after our previous visit. They were once red, and what I could call “bawdy-house attire,” but were now black, and not so racy. Service was quite good, and I noticed that the uniforms of the servers had changed. While good, the breading was a bit heavy (though the menu states “lightly”), but still tasty. My wife ordered the Wiener Schnitzel w/ veal cutlet lightly breaded, sautéed in butter and lemon, Served with green beans amandine. I ordered the Grilled Tuna w/ grilled tomatoes, asparagus and a lemon-caper sauce - quite good Wiener Schnitzel, sautéed in butter and lemon w/ green beans Amandine, which was quite good, as usual. Though the wine list is short, there are a few interesting wines, and for the captive audience of an airport hotel restaurant, the prices are not bad. I added the Five Rivers Hopland, California Pinot Noir ‘17. The stemware was industrial, but adequate for an airport hotel dining room. The bottle was at cellar temp, so no ice required. As always, we find the lighting in the Gaslight Club to be a bit dim, but many would typify it as “romantic.” I had the short wine list quickly, and chose the Louis Latour Puligny-Montrachet ‘14. She soon joined me for dinner in the Gaslight Club. My wife had had to rush to a meeting at Andiamo’s, the other on-property restaurant at the Hilton O’Hare Airport hotel. I arrived about 7:45pm, so not all that late, and was seated in what has become our “standard booth,” in the linear dining area, before one reaches the bar in the rear of the restaurant. ![]() As our flight was a bit delayed, we had called to move our reservation back a bit, and were warmly greeted on the phone, and all necessary arrangements made. In May, during a one-night stay, to be at ORD Airport, we once more dined at the Gaslight Club.
